±8± Best Buy Of all charges Visual Studio is a good development environment for C + + programming under Windows, and it is the norm to which others are compared.
However, compatibility issues with VS2008 VS2005 compiled. Lib files have bitten me on several projects as an independent contract programmer in the game industry, and it seems that migrate very few companies VS2008 (at least in the game industry) actually, so that this product proved far less useful than I had hoped, as he did notcompile most of them without significant work (recompiling libpng / zlib / libjpeg and others who are often called. lib file included in projects, and updates the SDK requirement of middleware providers).

x64 compiler and debugging environment - VS2008 Express can use the VS2005 Platform SDK can be patched to compile this x64, but it's a hassle to use and has no x64 debugger.
Features I really wish Visual Studio had, but itnot:
A performance profiler - I recommend AMD Code Analyst, if you are looking for a free, I hear that Intel VTune is worth it if you can afford it.
A memory debugger - I develop cross-platform, so I just valgrind for this on a Linux system, but it is a sorely missed feature in Visual Studio (there are many commercial packages available, but all failed valgrind).
Visual Studio 2008 is well worth the money, watch only if you are an independentContractor and May 2005 and need. on Sale!
